Croquê or Croquet is a game that originated from the French game Mall Pall or paille-maille, which is virtually obsolete. The game was observed by an English traveler to France and quickly spread across the United Kingdom in the 1850’s. The game is traditionally played with a set of wooden colored balls, wooden mallets and a series of wickets or curved hoops secured into the ground. Traditionally is played on a lawn, the balls are driven through a series of wickets with a mallet. The sport did not take long to reach America and other English speaking nations, finding itself in American soil in the 1860’s. Not yet an Olympic Sport, the game continues to be played today in backyards, competitive fields and outdoor venues across the world. A wonderful sport for all ages and is perfect for both individual and teams.
